The earthquake was only about 6.0 there, maybe a little less. There is little to no damage north of Lima. If there are out of the cities, they probably don’t know how bad the quake affected other places and probably haven’t thought to check in.

Just heard from my nephew. Their bus was caught with rock falls blocking the roads. They were on the bus for a day but have been able now to get back to Ayacucho. There are no mobile phone signals at all but he’s able to email now. If anyone had someone on a bus at that time what I’ve learnt is be patient you have to give time for them to get a safe roadway back to somewhere.

Adam, the roads are very much affected. By road all is fine as far as Ica, but it’s almost imposible to go north from there at this time. If you can contact her, she may want to enquire in Cusco or Arequipa(en route) about flights to Lima which should be operational now or will be soon.

My girlfriend was in Cuzco, and I imagine already is or will soon be on her way to Lima. Would the roads/busses from Cuzco-Lima be affected?

BB, I’m not sure how the road between Ayacucho and Ica is. IF they are able to arrive at Ica, they may be there for another day or so before the roads out (I assume next stop will be Lima?) will be fully open.

My nephew was travelling in a bus from Ayacochu to Ica – is it likely that this is one of the buses you are talking about in your blog? I don’t know the area so don’t know if he would have been near the Pan American Highway on that journey. We have heard nothing – anyone with any news or advice please help

left yesturday monrrning to go to “the coast” from Arequipa
Expected to be back tommorow. BUT when i called grandparents and asked they said she was “fine” and when i mentioned the earthquake it was as if they didnt know what they were tlaking bout. Suggesting thats why their so calm bcuz they didnt even feel it…Very Worried

thanx for all the info,there is no communication wher my girl friend is in the rain forest ,have no idea if quake was felt or even known of where she is. My mind is at ease after your comment back to me on puerto maldonado is fine.
