There is a standard "trip" which lasts between 45 and 90 minutes. This involves a buggy ride up and down the dunes and the opportunity at various locations to have a go at sandboarding. This does cost 40 soles.
If your legs are up to it, you can sandboard down and walk back up some of the closer dunes around Huacachina.

You should definitely go, its not far away, not expensive to get to and really good fun. Maybe leave it for a dull day next winter? Ica is always sunny.

The family of my husband's step mother owns a restaurant right in Huacachina. I unfortunately have yet to go there.

The cost to slide down the sand is approximately S/.40 PEN per person from what other travelers have told me.
