Stuart, thanks for featuring my post. I'm glad to see I'm not the only expat who is intrigued by the trend.

Wow, Juancho -- $12 for a D'Onofrio panetonne? That's gotta hurt! (I wonder if Peruvians visiting family in the US bring along some extra boxes at Xmas time?)

There's no Christmas (or Independence Day, at least in Lima) without "panetón". Those 2.5 metric tonnes probably apply to me hehe, I love it. How do you like it Stuart?

Panetón was on of the things we most missed when we moved to the US (well, yes there was aji, rocoto, huacatay, Inca Kola, etc on that list) but due to its connection to the holidays, the lack of panetón left a larger void.

Fortunately, thanks to a craze for Italian things a few years ago, Italian panetones are now available at this time of year in California. Brazilian ones sometimes turn up, and while good, the fruit tastes different.

D'Onofrio panetones also are available but at 12 dollars each, I'll stick to the more affordable Italian ones.
