I took my daughters there last month for my eldest daughter's birthday.

It's not the San Diego zoo, but I was pretty impressed taking Peruvian standards into account.

It's not a point of interest on the tourist map, which I think it should be for a half-day activity, and information was significantly absent.

I would have preferred if they provided park maps (even at a nominal cost) and additional information in English (even though I can read & understand Spanish.)

The size and span of the archaeological structures definitely blew me away. That was the biggest surprise for me out of the whole park.

Don't know if you passed by the Perros Peruanos near the onsite museum, but one of those little rascals was quite ornery with the kids and I.

You were kind enough to accompany me to this zoo Stuart. It was OK but not terribly informative and more of an attraction for Lima families out for a weekend jaunt. Lots of small children and almost no tourists (except me). The ruins were fairly typical of others in Northern Peru, partly reconstructed, adobe blocks and sometimes in poor shape. I enjoyed seeing the many families having a day out and of course there is a large shopping mall nearby for some post zoo retail therapy. Worth a visit especially if you have children to amuse.
