Yes, I was aware that in Lima on that time was developed the traffic system as we know it today in Occident. I may suppose that was an experiment sponsored by car producers in a big city like ours….
Also in Peru Elmer Faucett built his firs commercial Plane, first built in South America… The Curtiss based plane. Today is our time to do better things.

Hi there,
I’ve been following blogs about Peru for a few months (I am a Peruvian living abroad) and yours is one of my favorites.
Didnt know Peru produced cars long time ago. Where did you get this info? In fact, I wasnt aware of several things you report in your blog …where do you usually get the information from ?

It makes sense that they (Peru) would have produced a car. They had a rail system before Europe did!

They also have the oldest traffic laws in the world (obviously) and they invented the one-way street.

I think Chile, Mexico and other countries do Peru a favor when they claim things that history proves originated from Peru first. That’s when Peruvians go on a crusade to let the whole world know that it is “producto peruano” and they are proud of it!

God, Stuart, this is such a sad story. I had no idea that Peru was at one time on the frontlines of automobile design. How the president could have shot down an industry like that — it’s incredible.

Sometimes I see Peruvians stomp out someone’s good idea due to sheer jealousy. Other times, I see good ideas being snuffed simply because of that low-self-esteem factor, as you say.

More people should know about this slice of Peruvian history.

And speaking of this — why doesn’t Peru start making cars now?
