Lots of similarities with Chile’s Pinochet, another right-wing dictator who stifled democracy and human rights. But a success for economics and development.

I’d add that Avenida Arequipa has a bicycle path in the median, which allows a safe ride with spectactular views of Lima from Miraflores into the city’s center.

I lived in Bogota for three years, a city (probably) with a more cosmopolitan image than Lima. However, Bogota’s downtown area is ugly and scary compared to Lima’s center. Downtown Lima was a pleasant surprise my last visit, and I even ventured east of Abancay

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Lima should be marketed as a BEAUTIFUL city.

I agree. Leguia is not the only President that thinks that Lima is the only important city in Peru. Up in the Andes, most cities are forgotten. There aren’t schools for the children or work for the parents. Just a shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leguia fue uno de los peores presidentes del Peru, entreguista y muy destructivo, el fue uno de los que acelero el centralismo limeno, y dejo a las provincias en la pobreza y la decadencia.
Si hubiera sido alcalde de Lima, entonces seria considerado como el mejor que haya tenido esa ciudad hasta la fecha
Conclusion, Leguia fue el mejor “presidente” de Lima, pero uno de los peores presidentes del Peru; eso pasa cuando se creee que “Lima es el Peru”

It is sad to see such a decline compared to then and now, but Lima is definitely improving again. The question is, will it ever reclaim its “First Rate” world status?

I don’t expect the population to decline, but if the country would decentralize, I think you would see the population expand outwards once more.

Wonderflull pictures, I”m from Lima and it is in the process of changes again it’s looking beautiful again. yet it is very populated and has a long way to go, but still very beautiful and full of good energy, beautiful churches and old buildings. Lima the City of the Kings. I love you.

Absolutely amazing. I’m so sad when I see how much Lima has changed. I’d love to see the city find a way back to its glory days – although hopefully not at the expense of the provinces.
