We arrived to our allocated stand on time, before 9am, but not early enough to be in the front row. Luckily I am tall enough for that not to matter too much.
Everyone from military schools, the armed forces and the police and firefighters took part in the parade.
Watching were generals, congressmen, the new Presidente Alan García and Chilean Presidenta Michelle Bachelet.
