To the island of Amantaní

October 28th, 2006

We continued on boat to the island of Amantaní. Amantaní, unlike the Uros, is an island of solid ground, and we would be spending the night there with a local family.
At least we hoped so. In the middle of Lake Titicaca the motor of the boat gave out and we were stranded. We spent an hour floating along but getting no closer to the island we could see in the near distance. The sun was burning hot and the wind icy cold. At this altitude the sun manages to burn off 600 cubic metres of water from the lake every second.
We were tired from the 4 hour journey and spent the time asleep out on deck until they finally got the engine working.
