Peruvian restaurants seize on opportunities abroad

As Peruvian food becomes better known throughout the world, more Peruvian restaurants are seizing on the opportunity to expand into foreign markets. Some have already done this – Pardo’s Chicken is one, and Gastón’s La Mar is another – franchises of famous Peruvian restaurants are now found in the US, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and Chile.
Last week in Mexico more Peruvian restaurants took their first tentative first steps in examining their potential success abroad. PromPeru, the nation’s tourism and export promoter, attended the international trade fair “Feria Internacional de Franquicias” and was joined by restaurants El Señorío de Sulco, Pez On, José Antonio, Rosa Naútica, Caplina, El Escondite del Gordo, Polo Marino and Las Canastas – all established and popular locales.

So you think “cuy”, “salchipapas” and cerveza Cusqueña will go over in Soho?
Maybe not the cuy or salchipapas, but the Cusqueña is already a bit of a hit in the UK.
I’m really surprised that Peruvian food hasn’t caught on as much. Ceviche could be trendy, like sushi, but there are about 50 Japanese restaurants for every Peruvian.
I don’t see the salchipapas catching on though:)
If you ever visit Los Angeles, there are some very delicious Peruvian restaurants. There is a small chain called Inka Pollo which serves most of the traditional dishes though I don’t recall seeing Cuy on the menu.
