A ten minute bus ride from Chiclayo, at about 11km, is the most popular beach in Lambayeque where visitors can enjoy a good climate most of the year. A fishing town part of the year in which locals still uses the millennia-old Caballitos de Totora, it becomes a crowded get-away spot in the warmer months.

This summer district mayor Roberto Jacinto Purisaca expects to welcome more than a million beach-goers to Pimentel to enjoy the sun, the watersports and the ceviche.

To make the experience even better, the authorities recently wrapped up a series of ecological and  recycling drives organized to clean and beautify Pimentel beach prior to welcoming its visitors. Summer events will be held such as a exhibition of Caballitos de Totora, a gastronomic festival, a music festival and a Miss Beach 2008 pageant. Police and lifeguard numbers have also been improved.
